Convolutional Layers 3D
ML Engineer path · lesson 48 of 80See convolution as it truly is — a 3D operation! Watch kernels slide across volumetric feature maps with height representing pixel intensity. Edge detection, sharpening, and blur filters come alive in Three.js.

Edge Detection
The center weight (+8) amplifies the current pixel; the eight surrounding weights (-1) subtract each neighbour. Where intensity changes sharply across a boundary the sum is large, highlighting the edge. Where intensity is uniform, the subtractions cancel to near zero.
